New Video of a roof-top performance in Paris

Here’s a new performance video of us doing CARNIVAL on a roof top in Paris on April 20th this spring. Many thanks to Vincent Bourre for the idea and directing, as well as Audrey Bastide and Nicolas Weil.

We’re coming back to Paris tomorrow and will be performing live on the FRANCE INTER show ‘On va tous y passer’ around 11am on June 3rd, and later that night at Les Trois Beaudets. Information for the concert can be found here:

Here’s the video. Enjoy!

So long 2013!

It is with the warm glow one can only feel in one’s favourite Montreal pub, with a pint in hand, a heater pointed at one’s feet, while looking out at fat swirling snowflakes transforming themselves into glittering mountains that we say goodbye to 2013.

2013 – you were a year that gave us much joy, some sorrow and a good many ups and downs, but over all thanks for the music music music.

Here are ten of our most poignant/exciting/dreadful/hilarious moments in no particular order of importance:

10. Thanks to the kind folks (with excellent taste) at vimeo our most recent video for Russian Dolls got a record number (for us) of hits in the last week or so. The fact that many parts of the country have been -19°C and covered in snow might or might not have to do with people spending more time watching music videos…

9.  Our new album Russian Dolls! We loved every single second that went into it’s making from the writing and arranging, to recording and mixing, hanging out with Jace at the Breakglass Studios, to working on the graphics, videos and all that jazz.

8.  A tough one was saying goodbye to Amélie Mandeville and Tonio Morin-Vargas, our wonderful band of the past few years with whom we had travelled many kilometers on a road that ended with Russian Dolls. Thanks guys!

7. A particularly bizarre and confusing modern communications fail that resulted in a couple of people missing their flights back home from Europe, and therefore missing out on 1 of 3 precious days off between tours. For some reason everyone seems to avoid bringing that subject up…

6. The birth of Mark’s second child. A beautiful boy who even came out to support his daddy at the Russian Dolls album launch this fall.

5. Six weeks of bliss at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff Alberta. A more perfect place for artists surely does not exist. From it’s mountains, trees and rivers and slightly menacing wildlife, to the secluded log cabin studios and the people at the Centre who make it all possible. We can’t wait to go back for more.

4. Finding new kindred souls with whom to play. Pete Pételle and Stephane Petrocca, we’re so happy we found you guys!

3. Our short stint touring with Sophie Hunger in Euorpe. She is a musical force. And she and her musicians are some of the kindest, funniest and most impressive people we have had the pleasure to share a stage with.

2. Our last show in support of 2011’s June in Siberia at Le Mouton Noir in Val David. One of our favourite venues in Canada, and the crowd that night made it a perfect place to say goodbye to the old album.

1. How 2014 is shaping up. We’re bursting at the seems with exciting stuff. But for now….Byebye2013
