Here’s a little video of BEER GARDEN from over two years ago now in the studio recording Russian Dolls :::

So long 2013!

It is with the warm glow one can only feel in one’s favourite Montreal pub, with a pint in hand, a heater pointed at one’s feet, while looking out at fat swirling snowflakes transforming themselves into glittering mountains that we say goodbye to 2013.

2013 – you were a year that gave us much joy, some sorrow and a good many ups and downs, but over all thanks for the music music music.

Here are ten of our most poignant/exciting/dreadful/hilarious moments in no particular order of importance:

10. Thanks to the kind folks (with excellent taste) at vimeo our most recent video for Russian Dolls got a record number (for us) of hits in the last week or so. The fact that many parts of the country have been -19°C and covered in snow might or might not have to do with people spending more time watching music videos…

9.  Our new album Russian Dolls! We loved every single second that went into it’s making from the writing and arranging, to recording and mixing, hanging out with Jace at the Breakglass Studios, to working on the graphics, videos and all that jazz.

8.  A tough one was saying goodbye to Amélie Mandeville and Tonio Morin-Vargas, our wonderful band of the past few years with whom we had travelled many kilometers on a road that ended with Russian Dolls. Thanks guys!

7. A particularly bizarre and confusing modern communications fail that resulted in a couple of people missing their flights back home from Europe, and therefore missing out on 1 of 3 precious days off between tours. For some reason everyone seems to avoid bringing that subject up…

6. The birth of Mark’s second child. A beautiful boy who even came out to support his daddy at the Russian Dolls album launch this fall.

5. Six weeks of bliss at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff Alberta. A more perfect place for artists surely does not exist. From it’s mountains, trees and rivers and slightly menacing wildlife, to the secluded log cabin studios and the people at the Centre who make it all possible. We can’t wait to go back for more.

4. Finding new kindred souls with whom to play. Pete Pételle and Stephane Petrocca, we’re so happy we found you guys!

3. Our short stint touring with Sophie Hunger in Euorpe. She is a musical force. And she and her musicians are some of the kindest, funniest and most impressive people we have had the pleasure to share a stage with.

2. Our last show in support of 2011’s June in Siberia at Le Mouton Noir in Val David. One of our favourite venues in Canada, and the crowd that night made it a perfect place to say goodbye to the old album.

1. How 2014 is shaping up. We’re bursting at the seems with exciting stuff. But for now….Byebye2013

Bande à Part : Radio Canada // Sophie Hunger

Alo, it’s been a while.

We did a show with Pierre Lapointe on the Ubisoft rooftop back in August. It was one of the most memorable shows we’ve ever done. AND, happily, the program Bande à Part of Radio Canada, caught the whole thing on tape and video. You can view an excerpt from the show here:

As well, we’ll be doing 4 concerts with Sophie Hunger this upcoming week. See to your left for the details. This Saturday we’ll be in Shawinigan, then next week in Gatineau, Sherbrooke, and Longueuil! We love what she does and look forward to doing what she does.

Check out some videos of hers here:

New song…

Fall Québecois // German Release and Rolling Stone // Sophie Hunger

Alo Alo,

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted anything. Been on the road, and then back home enjoying the summer in Montréal….excuses excuses….

The tour out in Western Canada was fabulous. Vancouver and Calgary Folk Festivals were such a treat to play again. Met tonnes of nice folks and fellow artists in the beer tents and got to hang with old friends such as Dan Mangan and Amelia Curran among others.

We have a few shows this month starting with the first show of 23 concerts around Québec for this Fall !!! (ALL SHOWS ARE NOW POSTED TO YOUR LEFT)

We’ll be starting the run this Thursday, August 16th in Chateauguay (Salle Jean Pierre Houde –
Centre culturel Vanier). The next night (Aug 17th) we’ll be doing a duo show, Kristina (cello) and I at the Centre St Ambroise in St Henri, Montréal. On Aug 25th we’ll be doing a show on the roof of Ubisoft with the very talented Pierre Lapointe. Apparently the show is already sold out, so if you want to check out our duo show, come down to the Centre St Ambroise on Aug 17th.

We are also VERY HAPPY to announce the release of June in Siberia in Germany this week on August 17th through Global Records / Rough Trade. Our press agent Sven-Erik Stephan of Beats International has so far done a stellar job with about 15 reviews in local and national magazine and newspapers around Germany. Rolling Stone in Germany called the album “Grandeur, Grosse Geste, Musik furs Theatre”…= Grand, great gesture, music for theatres…we’ll be touring over there in January, 2013. Dates to be announced this Fall.

In June, Montreal received a visit from the very talented Swiss artist named Sophie Hunger. I opened for her at La Cigalle in Paris in June, 2010, and then she came to our show in Zurich last December, 2011. She’s become a friend and continues to inspire with her artistic world. She came to record a few songs at Hotel 2 Tango in Montreal with Howard Bilerman. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be a doozy…make sure you check it out!

We hope to see you soon!

Yours and Yours…

——————-
